I am a beginner can I take the CCW/CPL course?
Yes you can. Our instruction is designed to accommodate the beginning student as well as the advanced student. New students should take advantage of our free private lesson. With your paid class tuition, you can use the free lesson before or after the CCW/CPL class. Taking the lesson before the class will allow the beginning student to learn safe gun handling skills, basic operation and maintenance, and basic shooting skills prior to taking the class. Historically, beginning students that take the free private lesson prior to the class perform very well in the class.
I don't have my own firearm. Can I still take the class?
Yes. If you don't have your own firearm, you will be able to rent a firearm When I took my CCW/CPL class,
I didn't learn very much about actually carrying a concealed pistol and drawing from a holder. Where can I learn this information?
Great Lakes Firearms Safety Training offers courses for the CCW/CPL holder that goes beyond the basic CCW/CPL class.
What should I bring to CCW\CPL class? Please bring the following:
• Handgun (If you don't have a handgun, one will be provided for a fee).
• 100 rounds of ammunition. If you are bring your own ammunition, please note that only fully jacked ammunition is allowed for classes held at the Westland and Livonia locations. If you are renting our firearms, you must purchase ammo from us
• At least one handgun magazine (some people refer to this as a clip) if you are using a semi-automatic pistol. If you are using our firearms, we will provide the magazines.
• Pen and paper to take notes.
• Lunch, snacks, beverages. We will only take short breaks, so bring enough food for yourself to last the entire day.
• Questions to ask the lawyer or police officer during the law portion of the class.
• Hearing and eye protection. If you don't have them, they can be provided.
• Hat with a brim. Like a baseball cap.
• Wear a round collar type shirt (non V-neck). This will help prevent empty cartridge casings from going down your shirt when firing the gun. We will explain this during the shooting portion of the class.

• No live ammunition is allowed in the classroom. You can leave your ammunition in the car until the shooting portion of the class. No exceptions!!
